DB14

DB14 in its current form was built by and for Tasmanian Government Railways (TGR) in 1928 on an under-frame built in 1887. Classified as a Bogie Composite Guards Van.

Writing in a June 1996 edition of the ARHS Bulletin, rail historian H J W (Jim) Stokes noted that DB14 was originally built by the Ashbury Railway Carriage & Iron Company near Manchester in England,

and was delivered to the Tasmanian Government Railways in 1887 for operation on the Fingal, Derwent Valley and Scottsdale lines.

The TGR began constructing its own DB van bodies at Launceston Railway Workshops in the early 1890s. Many were rebuilt and reconfigured in the 1920s and 1930s. DB14 is and early example of these.

All Tasmanian Railway assets transferred to Australian National Railways (1978-1997) in 1978 .

DB14 was written off and withdrawn from service five years later, in 1983, and purchased from Australian National Railways by DVRPS in 1991.
